Genesis 28:18

The Book of Genesis. His article does not name a Hebrew edition. The Latin checked here is the public-domain Vulgate.

The verse is set at Bethel, in the patriarchal narrative. A date is not given.

What the source says

The Latin says that in the morning Jacob took the stone he had put under his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on it.

Why it is here

The verse is the biblical text he sets beside the inscription in The Ark of Edessa.

Ralph’s interpretation

He asks whether the seat in the inscription is the biblical ark, and he offers this anointed stone as the comparison. The identification is his question, not a statement in Genesis.

Alternative readings

The usual reading of the verse is Jacob at Bethel. It does not mention Edessa, Sogmatar, or the ark of the covenant. No other commentary was checked for this record.
