The site

Privacy

This site is published by Ralph Ellis, through Edfu Books, in Cheshire, England. It does not sell addresses, and it does not run advertising.

Contact

The contact form sends your name, email address, and message to Ralph so he can reply. The message is emailed to him, and it is kept so he can answer it, and for no other purpose.

Page counts

The site keeps a private tally of which pages are opened and which links are used, such as a book, a lecture, YouTube, Amazon, or an audiobook. The press page is included. A click on a shop is an interest in that book. It is not a record of a sale. A contact message that is accepted is also counted, as a reader enquiry or a documentary enquiry, and by the kind of enquiry if one was chosen. That count does not store the name, the email address, or the message. The tally is a running total. Page visits are also stored by calendar month from the day that store began. Earlier months are not reconstructed. The tally does not store your name or email address. A note kept in the browser for that visit only stops the same page being counted twice. That note is not a cookie. The monthly report of that tally is kept for the publisher. It is not a public page. Book interest.

Google Analytics

A bar at the foot of the page asks whether Google Analytics may count visits. Until you allow it, the Google script is not loaded. If you allow it, Google sets its own cookies, named _ga and _ga_, so it can tell a return visit from a new one. The count includes pages, a book being opened, a click onward to Amazon or an audiobook, and the fact that a contact message was accepted. It does not include your name, your email address, or the words of the message. It is not used for advertising. Choosing “Not now” stores that choice in this browser only, and it is not a cookie.

On this device

The site opens in dark mode. A choice of light mode is saved in this browser and is not sent anywhere. That choice is not a cookie.

Cookies

This site sets one cookie of its own. If a language other than English is chosen, a cookie named googtrans is kept for a year so the same language is used on the next visit. Choosing English again removes it.

Some actions ask another company for a page or a player. That company may then set its own cookie.

A link that leaves this site, including Amazon, Patreon, X, Facebook, or Google Play, is then that other site’s page. Any cookie it sets is its own.
